Stuart's Ride to the Potomac: A Tour in Review
This program beings at 7:00 p.m. at the Gettysburg National Military Park Museum and Visitor Center, preceded by a reception with cash bar and heavy hors d’oeuvres from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Confederate cavalry commander J.E.B. Stuart’s ride to Pennsylvania in the summer of 1863 is to this day among the most controversial chapters in the Gettysburg story. The Friday night program with Licensed Battlefield Guides Chris Army and Britt Isenberg will wade into some of that controversy, but most importantly recap the first part of General Stuart’s ride to Pennsylvania; from receiving his orders, to figuring out where to cross his horsemen over the Potomac River into Maryland. The discussion will prepare the group attending the tour on Saturday to pick up the story of Stuart’s Ride at our first stop, the Potomac River.

Stuart Invades Pennsylvania: Stuart’s Ride Part II
This tour will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Gettysburg Museum and Visitor Center. We will then travel by coach bus to the Potomac River and follow Stuart’s Ride into Pennsylvania ending in Carlisle. We will return to Gettysburg by approximately 5:30 p.m. On June 28th, 1863 Confederate Cavalry General JEB Stuart faced a timeframe that was slipping away from him and the Potomac River was in front of him. The trip, so far, had been fraught with delay and evasive maneuvering necessary to avoid full contact with the Union Army of the Potomac. On this second part of our examination of Stuart’s Ride, we will look at the river crossing and follow Stuart’s troops through Maryland and Pennsylvania as the “Beau Sabre’” continued to adhere to his orders to meet up with General Richard S. Ewell near the Susquehanna River in PA. Join Licensed Battlefield Guides Chris Army and Britt Isenberg as we continue the study of the multitude of factors that affected Stuart’s ability to provide General Robert E. Lee with the information he needed as the Battle of Gettysburg was getting underway. Our journey will take us to the Potomac River crossing, Rockville and, Westminster, Maryland then to Hanover, near York and Carlisle PA.
