Clara Barton & The Missing Soldiers Office
Description
Join Madeleine Thompson, Site Manager of the Clara Barton Missing Soldiers Office Museum, for an evening exploring one of the Civil War era's most remarkable figures. Clara Barton defied convention at every turn - bringing aid to soldiers in the field, advocating for those left behind, and ultimately leading an unprecedented effort to account for the missing dead. This program will trace Barton's Civil War career, her work at the Missing Soldiers Office, and the lasting legacy of her humanitarian career - including the museum that now preserves her story at the very Washington boardinghouse where she once lived and worked.

Madeleine Thompson is the Site Manager of the Clara Barton Missing Soldiers Office Museum, part of the National Museum of Civil War Medicine, in Washington, D.C. Prior to joining the Museum, Madeleine received her Master of Arts in Sexual Dissidence from the University of Sussex where she completed her dissertation on medieval women’s bedrooms. Madeleine also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from West Virginia University with minors in History and Women’s and Gender Studies.
