Houses of the Emmitsburg Road
with Licensed Battlefield Guide Therese Orr and Kendra Debany, House & Farm Historian
The army during the battle made so many changes that it was hard for those that were living there before the battle to recognize places…” —Daniel H. Klingel. Some of the most intense fighting of the Gettysburg campaign happened on the farms and in the fields along the Emmitsburg Road. Daniel Klingel was just one of the homeowners who lived along the road when war came to the area in July 1863. Klingel’s experience is one of the subjects we’ll cover on our tour of the NPS-owned farms along the Emmitsburg Road.
