Civil War Medicine

Description

Turning the Course of Trauma & Disease offers a comparison of 19th century and 21st century medicine with a focus on diseases people are still contracting today—with a much better survival rate. Schroeder and Feyock will examine the concept of a triage system that was implemented all those years ago and discuss the differences in the triage system of today. They will introduce American Civil War surgeons much differently than they are often portrayed in Hollywood films. Schroeder and Feyock will explain how Civil War doctors did the very best they could with the conditions, techniques and resources they had available to them at the time.

This special program lasts about 90 minutes and is limited to 40 attendees. Friends of Gettysburg receive a $5 discount.
